Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition is included with Acctivate and recommended for most new users. You also have the option to use an existing Microsoft SQL Server or install a new SQL Server instance.
Microsoft supports a separate SQL Server instance for each application. For example, you may have a separate SQL Server instance running for Acctivate, UPS WorldShip, and SharePoint. This allows a different configuration for each application and keeps the database and backup files separate. We recommend the ACCTIVATE name when installing a new SQL Server instance (i.e., ServerComputerName\ACCTIVATE).
The default settings from the Microsoft SQL Server installation are usually not sufficient for Acctivate. The following settings should be reviewed and adjusted.
- Switch to SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode
- Enable and start the SQL Browser Service
- Enable the TCP/IP and Named Pipes network protocols
- Add Windows Firewall rules for SQL Server and SQL Browser Service
Remember to restart the Microsoft SQL Server service after making the above changes.
